The smart-pathing navigation system provides superior maneuverability and its high-pile carpet mode cleans well, although it is prone to get caught up on rug tassels, and its iHome speaker allows you to operate the robot by voice commands.
In our tests during our tests, the IQ was able to handle pet hair well, clearing huge amounts of hair from bare floors and fair amounts of medium-pile carpet. It was less effective with shag carpets, as it had a hard time reaching dirt and dust embedded within the fibers. It did a decent job of navigating the legs of chairs and tight spaces as well as the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was a bit slower on floors that were not paved however it soon recovered speed and performed more thoroughly than the other robots we tested.
The IQ is a more suitable choice for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin, lasts longer on a charge, and does a better job of moving itself around obstacles. It also has mopping attachments that are able to deal with sticky debris. On the other hand the iRobot is built better, has fewer parts that require maintenance or replacement and incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance and creates virtual no-go zones through its companion app. It is able to continue cleaning from the point it started, even if the battery is out before it finishes.
